Camilla A. Alim began her legal career with the firm of Rajesh Hisham Pillai & Gopal, and thereafter stepped into the realm intellectual property (“IP”) law when she joined Shearn Delamore & Co. in 2003. From planning and strategising for clients, to going down to the ground and conducting raids together with officers from KPDNKK, she assisted clients in enforcing their rights against counterfeiters and misappropriaters of IP in Malaysia. Camilla has had over 8 years of experience in trade mark registration and subsequently design registration; advised clients on trade mark, copyright and design laws, and other IP related advisory work. She subsequently focused on Competition law as Malaysia passed its competition legislation in 2010. Camilla developed the area of law within the firm. In her research and advice, she also assisted clients with training programmes and trained over 300 staff in a leading pharmaceutical company in Malaysia. She has also presented at several local forums. In 2012, Camilla joined Maxis Berhad, a leading telecommunications provider in Malaysia, which boasts almost 13 million customers in Malaysia. She continues to dabble in IP law and is responsible for the management of Maxis Group’s IP, management of Maxis’ IP from a brand perspective, and creation of Maxis’ IP (trade marks and copyright). She also assists with operations and works on special projects within Maxis – in drafting reviewing, advising and negotiating on contracts. She also provides legal advice on compliance issues and in some instances work around options when the business requires it. The work entails both pre and post contract administration and structuring. Camilla holds a Masters in Law from the University of Wales, Cardiff, Bachelor of Laws from the University of South Wales (formerly University of Glamorgan) and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2002.
